In 1956, the 300SLS Roadster competed in the SCCA (Sports Car Club of America), one of the most competitive circuits in the world. The car driven by Paul O'Shea, known as the "Mobilgas Special", stood out for its speed and reliability on U.S. tracks.  

This roadster was the first purpose-built racing car from Mercedes-Benz, marking the start of its dominance in international touring car racing.
